Puchon Choice : Feature

Puchon Choice is the competition section of the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival. 12 films will be presented. You can take a look, feel and enjoy genre films from all over the world. This year Puchon Choice offers mixed genres from all over the world, highlighting how modern genre films are evolving variations in, and the balance of genres. A case in point being Open Windows, where the director, Nacho Vigalondo, presents a new blend of 'fake documentary' with a 'mystery thriller.’ On a tightrope between melodrama and horror Darkness by Day, points to Argentina for a new blend of genre film. Then there is a fusion western, offering up a Texan cowboy in the Alps, with just a touch of mystery. Dark Valley criticizes modern totalitarianism using the zombie genre, whereas in Dead Snow 2, conventions and their innovative variations blossom together. The Babadook, an Australian horror where a children’s book meets vicious evil spirit that creates unfamiliar fear: a werewolf girl who suffer pressure and prejudice from her father and the villagers, grows up through bloody revenge in When Animals Dream. One other characteristic that features in this year's Puchon Choice is a rapid progress in Chinese and South-east Asian films. China-Hollywood's well-made mystery The Great Hypnosist and a chameleon-like fruit, in Chan's The Midnight After, will captivate an audience with its powerful energy and charm. In Hong Hoon, you can catch a glimpse of this constantly evolving Thai genre film, and Camera challenges through experiments with various genres, and these two allow you to witness how South-east Asian genre films are evolving. Lastly, Japanese Time Trip App proudly presents Japan's thriving genre films as always.
